Entry into Force and Application

The EU AI Act entered into force on 1 August 2024. Different provisions apply at different dates: prohibited practices from 2 February 2025, GPAI rules from 2 August 2025, and core obligations from 2 August 2026.

Article 113 — Entry into Force and Application

This Regulation shall enter into force on the twentieth day following that of its publication in the Official Journal of the European Union.

It shall apply from 2 August 2026, except for the following:
(a) Title I and Title II shall apply from 2 February 2025;
(b) Chapter V of Title III, Title VI and Title XII shall apply from 2 August 2025;
(c) Article 6(1) and the corresponding obligations in this Regulation shall apply from 2 August 2027.
